First in a series, intended to showcase our advocates and team members and their story in the arena of maternal mental health care.
ST LOUIS, MO - Meet John, a 2020 Mom Board Member, and learn why John is moved to be a part of change in maternal mental health.
My name is John Smith. (The adventures I can tell you about my namesake are legendary.) I'm pleased to be serving as a new board member for 2020 Mom.
Q: What is your “2020 Mom Why?”
A: Three (3) lbs. and seven (7) ounces was my whopping birth weight. My parents never gave up on me. It is a blessing for my wife and I to have four children. I’ve seen both my wife and mother show a tremendous fortitude. As a husband and son, I firmly believe men are a critical support partner for their wives to battle maternal mental health and 2020 Mom (& Dads) need to team up for this incredibly important effort to support the women we love.
Q: 2020 Mom’s mission is to “close the gaps in maternal mental health care.” What’s your hope for how we can fulfill this bold mission?
A: My big hope is to initiate local market change through 2020 Mom with local leadership and grassroots efforts. This will allow us to better engage around local legislation, physician networks, hospital systems, and families for long-term sustainability of the cause.
Q: If you could choose to have a superpower, what would it be?
A: My superpower would be to HEAL anyone Spiritually, Physically, & Mentally.
Q: What is your personal why?
A: Serving others by the example given to me by JESUS Christ is what drives and centers me on helping others live their best life. My life of imperfection has humbly taught me grace for which I want to return to others.
